Strong Schools Work: Demand Maryland Legislators Fully Fund Our Schools!

We’re taking action to finally secure the long-term funding our students and educators deserve in the 2020 legislative session. This is a once-in-a-generation opportunity to make sure that every student in every neighborhood has a great public school. Are you in?

Here's the truth

Strong schools WORK. But right now, Maryland’s schools are dramatically underfunded, our teachers are underpaid, and our students lack the critical resources they deserve. But there’s good news! Marylanders overwhelmingly support increasing funding for public schools — and we have a once-in-a-generation opportunity during the 2020 General Assembly to make it happen.

After we marched in Annapolis, the Maryland General Assembly passed the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, adding $1.1 billion in new funding to strengthen our schools over the next three years. That gets us part of the way to adequately and equitably funding our schools. Right now, state lawmakers are considering House Bill 1300/Senate Bill 1000 to build on the Blueprint to finish the job and determine how much funding our schools will get over the next decade. From expanding career technical education, to providing additional support for struggling learners, to giving teachers a much needed pay raise — the ball is in the General Assembly’s court. So it’s up to us to demand they pass HB 1300/SB 1000 and make it happen!
