Strong Schools Work: Demand Maryland Legislators override the governor's veto!

Now more than ever, we need the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future to provide the school funding we need to make sure that every student in every neighborhood has a great public school. We must override the governor’s veto of the Blueprint during the 2021 legislative session. Are you in?

Here's the truth

Strong schools WORK. But right now, Maryland’s schools are dramatically underfunded, our teachers are underpaid, and our students lack the critical resources they deserve. But there’s good news! During the 2020 legislative session, legislators took an overwhelming, bipartisan vote to pass the Blueprint for Maryland’s Future and end the underfunding of our schools. Disappointingly, Gov. Hogan then vetoed the bill. We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity during the 2021 General Assembly to override the governor’s veto and finally get our students the support they need and deserve.

During the 2020 General Assembly session, legislators passed the transformational Blueprint for Maryland’s Future, a new, more equitable school funding formula that will expand career technical education, provide additional support for struggling learners, hire thousands more educators to increase support for students, and more. Unfortunately, the governor vetoed this bipartisan bill. The ball is now back in the court of legislators, who must override the bill during the 2021 General Assembly session. Now more than ever, we need the new investments and programs from the Blueprint to help all of our students be successful in the short- and long-term as we recover from the effects of the pandemic. So it’s up to us to demand that legislators override the veto and make it happen!
